One Wall Centre. 938 Nelson St. Vancouver

Things you didn't know About One Wall Centre.

At 48 storeys tall with a total height of 491 feet. One Wall sits on the highest point of land in Downtown Vancouver.Until recently was the tallest structure in downtown Vancouver.
Peter Wall of Wall Financial had a great vision when he decided to build, The One Wall Centre tower part of the Wall Centre complex, it is situated on the North east corner of the property.

Why the two toned Effect you ask?

One Wall has a unique two-tone appearance. The glass on the lower levels is a dark  mirrored glass, that matches the other two structures on the property. while the glass on the upper levels is light coloured glass. To satisfy the City of Vancouver Planning Department, who were concerned that the tower would dominate the downtown skyline.

In the end, the two toned structure, does look a bit odd, and  many  believe One Wall would have been more architecturally stimulating if the single dark glazing had been allowed. There is truth to the Rumour that hotel owner Peter Wall threatened to halted the construction for a time, when the city tried to forced him to replace all of the dark-paned glass, in the end a settlement was reached where only the remaining portion of the building (1/3 of its height) was would have the light coloured glass. In an  attempt to maintain the dark glass appearance, the windows in the upper third were installed with dark  blinds facing outwards. When the blinds were to be drawn, the building would have the intended dark  glass appearance.
