Wall Centre at 1050 burrard.Vancouver.Lock boxes a nono

Lockboxes. Convenient yes, practical? At times. Acceptable in the Downtown Vancouver real estate community? Nope. As a matter of fact some buildings have a bylaw banning the use of lockboxes by realtors. Wall Centre at 1050 Burrard is one of those condo buildings.

A while back Vancouver Realtor and video blogger Ian Watt of www.ianwatt.ca did a video about that bylaw in place at Wall Centre 1050 Burrard St. Vancouver and the use of lockboxes. he profiled an old lockbox still stuck on the stairs outside Wall Centre. The most embarrassing part of that particular video is, ummmm...I think that is my old lockbox..lol. Yes way back in the day, when I lived at  Wall centre and worked projects 6 days a week, I was not always able to show my listings. So to make it more convenient for the selling agent I did put a lockbox on the property. Even then over 10 years ago, a lot of realtors didn't have lockbox keys and today I doubt I  know a single downtown realtor who has a key. I wish I still had my key, so I could take that lockbox off of Wall Centre.

Lockboxes are not the way to get your Condo sold. You need me, the expert in your home, there to let people know about all the features of your home, things a seller realtor would likely not know, and may be instrumental in the buyer deciding to buy your property. If your realtor asks if he can put a lockbox on your property, I would say no, I want you here for all showings. I personally show up for all my showings, I believe it is good customer service.
